[Two Poems]

by Steven Hendrix

At the Caffe Trieste, North Beach

I fall asleep
	over my open notebook
		and my cappuccino

the barista takes a picture
	and jestingly calls it
		the poet at work

Planting Seeds

My great uncle would take my mother
grocery shopping when she was a young girl
and let her try the fruit as they walked through the market
grapes or plums or apricots or apples
telling her it was free as long as she
finished it before they reached the register.
