Hope is the thing with feathers
but determination is the cat
that out the second story leaps
the robins for to catch.
And even with two broken legs
she drags herself to stare
and chatter behind fastened pane
at birds who linger there.
And though she has no chance in hell
to fell the flying free
she looks with an unwavering eye
as if to say “we’ll see.”
